Mast and keel progress

I've got the new lead bulb faired and the first coat of colour on it and the keel blade this afternoon so I'm pretty happy that I will get it all painted in-time for the hull flip this Saturday. I need to get the bulb finished so I can put it in place on the trailer before the hull gets in the way.

The bulb can be seen in the background, and that's the real colour. The keel blade colour got 'washed out' a bit and is not show the true hot ink colour that it is.

Also in the way of progress, Crofty came around yesterday (our tame boat builder/designer/ and friend) and had a look at our proposed replacement mast which is all carbon, he gave it the thumbs up so I gave him the spreaders to modify/ lengthen to suit our boat. The mast is orginallly from an 18ft skiff and is very light and made from the very best of materials.
The insurance company sent out a guy with an attitude (no real surprises there) to look at our broken mast; that only took them 6 weeks. Lets see how long it takes them to make a decision. Lucky for us we had a friend offer gis mast for sale to us (he was going to use it one day on a project of his own) otherwise we could be waiting a long long time. Now after Crofty giving us the nod we should have the 'new' mast sorted in two or three weeks; fingers crossed.

Photos of the new mast to come.
