New keel bulb

Charlene update...........Current keel bulb (blue) and the 'new' plug made from the old original plug. The white parts are the new volume makers. Current bulb is 86kg, the new one has been volume measured in water and should give us a new bulb weight of 135 to possibly145kg. Enough.

It will slow the boat down, but considering upside down is extremely slow I will gladly take the extra weight. Also, we never did get 'Charlene up to her potential so we have no idea how much slower she'll be, so what you don't know you don't miss right?

No pissing about this time with the bulb weight, we need a self righting boat more than we want a fast one so that's why I decided to throw 50-60kg of extra lead on. I am still surprised the amount of lead we had on didn't make her self righting and I think the wind and wave conditions contributed a lot at the time.
However, at the end of the day I am more interested in safety and regaining my wife's' confidence in Charlene and enjoying sailing that having a dick swinging contest over who has the lightest boat.

I have just finished casting the new plug in mortar (cement) today and will do the pore in a couple of weekends' time........... (We're still waiting for word from the insurance company about a new mast, should know something this week coming and we expect it to be good news. It all just takes time as we were expecting).

Next Saturday, with help from friends, we will be flipping the hull upside down so I can finally finish off the new bow area by fairing it properly, it's still a bit rough at the moment because I ran out of time.
Much easier to longboard the hull upside down. Then she'll get a fresh paint job of course while she's easy to access also.

By the time all that's done we should be waiting on our new mast to arrive. We got quotes from CST Composites (Australia) and C-Tech (New Zealand). The prices are very similar and C-tech just has more stock parts to supply with the mast. C-Tech have a mast head sheave to go with the mast, CST we would have to fabricate ourselves or have to more money for someone else to make it. There were a few things like this that prompted us to supply the C-Tech quote to our insurance company. The insurance company only wanted one quote.
